Ice-skating at Somerset House

Always a houseful, ice-skating at Somerset house was no let down. It definitely left me wanting more time on the ice!

With Christmas carols battling against the 2009 Hip Hop and R&B chart toppers on the speakers, ice-skaters get to spend an hour under the Christmas decorations and snowflake shaped lights.

That's me on the ice!

Making their way around the rink beginners and veterans alike, slide around in circles some with ease and some holding onto the railings for dear life!

The one time falling flat on your rear makes you laugh is when you are around friends and just having a good time, ‘trying’ to ice skate.

The weather doesn’t give you a chill and time simply flies by, after having taken a number of pictures to capture the memories of the night.

Saying Goodbye

As the clock hits the hour mark people are unwilling asked to leave the rink. Slowly but unwillingly making their way out, you can already hear people making plans to re-visit to the rink in the coming weeks before it closes down for the year.

To experience the fun of ice-skating amidst the beautiful backdrop of neo-classical architecture along with a number of amateur skaters, just like yourself. Somerset House is the place to be on a cold winters night.

Review: A Christmas Carol (3D)

A Christmas Carol (3D)

Starring: Jim Carrey, Colin Firth and Gary Oldman

Rating 3.5/5

Based on the book by Charles Dickens, Jim Carrey plays the role of a miserly old man plays the role of Uncle Scrooge, an old ungrateful gentleman who hates everything that reminds him of the festive Christmas spirit.

Using 3D effects, the director Robert Zemeckis takes the viewers into the world of Ebenezer Scrooge, the one man who hates Christmas with all his heart. “If I could have my way, every idiot who goes about with ‘Merry Christmas’ on his lips should be boiled in his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart!”

To change his ways and outlook on life that are so negative, three ghosts visit him over the span of 24 hours, the night before Christmas. The ghost of the past, the ghost of the present and the ghost of the future, take him through time up until the future. Taking him though time, they try to bring about some life into the old man and change his views about the festive season that weren’t always this dull.

A well directed film that will entertain children, it isn’t as colourful as other animation movies. There are some visible errors with the 3D scenes where you can see Scrooge bang into buildings and poles while flying in the sky.

Nonetheless, the effects attempt to give you a feel of the movie and the Christmas spirit. It may not be bright and bubbly film, but it’s worth a watch for children and adults.

Reminding one of the joys that Christmas has to offer!
